As part of a shared commitment to building a sustainable supply chain in compliance with European Union regulations, Inovasi Digital and Unilever organized the Technical Training on EUDR: Mapping Standardization, Due Diligence Process and Procedures. This training was designed to equip suppliers with the knowledge and technical skills needed to meet the core requirements outlined in Article 3 of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which include geolocation tracking, proof of deforestation-free status, and the implementation of systematic risk assessment and mitigation.
The program targeted one of Unilever’s key suppliers, PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN), which is currently preparing to transform its compliance system to meet EU regulatory standards. As an initial step, the training focused on four of PTPN’s palm oil mills (PKS) selected as pilot sites: PKS Rambutan, PKS Pulu Raja, PKS Bah Jambi, and PKS Sei Mangkei. These pilot units were chosen to evaluate the effectiveness of a technical approach that can be later scaled across other units.
The training was held on June 11–12, 2025, at the PTPN Regional I & II Office in Medan, North Sumatra, and was attended by 35 participants representing various strategic functions within the organization. These included representatives from the systems and sustainability management team, human resources (particularly industrial relations), operational staff from each PKS, and legal teams responsible for licensing and regulatory documentation.
The training covered key topics, including spatial-based geolocation data collection and reporting, procedures for verifying deforestation-free status, comprehensive risk assessment development, and risk mitigation plans tailored to the unique characteristics of each site. It also included guidance on preparing other compliance documents and setting up document storage and reporting systems to ensure all data is traceable, well-documented, and audit-ready.
Through this program, Inovasi Digital and Unilever aim to strengthen the technical readiness of suppliers in supporting the traceability and sustainability of palm oil derivative products from Indonesia while ensuring full compliance with applicable EU regulations. The training also serves as a concrete example of cross-sector collaboration in addressing global challenges related to sustainability and supply chain governance.
