In 27-28 August 2024, in Pekanbaru, Riau, Inovasi Digital, in partnership with AAK, hosted a series of workshops titled “Traceability Challenges of Palm Oil Industry Supply Chains Originating from Forest and Conservation Areas.” The workshops brought together key stakeholders involved with Tesso Nilo National Park, including government officials and representatives from the private sector, such as AAK’s palm oil mill partners and other palm oil industry buyers.
The primary objective of the event was to address the significant challenges facing Tesso Nilo National Park, particularly the threats of deforestation and forest encroachment driven by the expansion of oil palm plantations. The discussions centered on identifying practical solutions that stakeholders can implement to mitigate these challenges.
During the event, Inovasi Digital presented comprehensive research findings on the deforestation events within Tesso Nilo National Park, highlighting the presence of oil palm suppliers operating within the national park and FFB recipients through satellite imagery observations and field investigations.
Through the focus group discussion, a common understanding and collective commitment to addressing these critical issues were established among the parties, including enhanced conservation efforts, support for legal frameworks, and the development of a robust traceability system.
On August 28, 2024, in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia, Inovasi Digital, in collaboration with AAK as our implementing partner, continued the second day of the workshop titled “Traceability Challenges of the Palm Oil Industry Supply Chain from Forest and Conservation Areas.” The focus of this session was on providing specialized training to AAK’s partner mills on NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) policies and the concept of Traceability to Plantation (TTP).
The training featured a comprehensive presentation by Inovasi Digital on NDPE principles and traceability systems, with an emphasis on achieving traceability to the plantation level. This was followed by a collaborative discussion with the mills to formulate a work plan aimed at attaining 100% Traceability to Plantation. The objective of the training was to establish a unified understanding among palm oil industry stakeholders, particularly at the operational level, regarding the critical importance of supply chain traceability, transparency, and the adoption of sustainable practices, especially within the Tesso Nilo National Park area.
Despite the complexities involved in implementing supply chain traceability, it is hoped that this training will enhance the competence of industry participants in adopting sustainable palm oil industry practices and encourage concrete actions toward transforming the entire supply chain into a socially responsible, environmentally friendly, and sustainable industry.
